Orange has rolled out new requirements for email senders, with a strong emphasis on improving deliverability and security. These changes mean that both small and large senders need to ensure their emails meet these updated standards or risk deliverability issues.
Key Updates for Email Senders:
- Mandatory Email Authentication
Authentication through SPF, DKIM, and DMARC is now a requirement. These measures help verify that emails are being sent from legitimate domains, helping to prevent phishing and spoofing. In addition, ARC sealing is required for forwarded messages, which ensures message integrity through multiple hops. - IP Restrictions and Real-Time Monitoring
Orange has limited the number of concurrent connections to two per IP address, with 100 messages per connection. You’ll also need a valid reverse DNS record for your sending IP. Monitoring blacklists is critical as any IP listed on major blocklists (including: Abusix, Spamhaus and Cloudmark) could see its emails rejected. - Handling Complaints and Bounce Rates
Email deliverability is not just about sending messages; it’s about engagement and list hygiene. Complaint rates must be kept below 1%, and senders need to manage bounces carefully. This means maintaining a clean, updated distribution list with proper handling of inactive or invalid addresses. - Email Size and Content Limits
Orange has capped email size at 45MB. Anything larger will be rejected outright, so managing attachments and optimizing content is essential. - For Large Senders
If you’re sending bulk emails (more than 100 per day), it’s crucial to stay compliant with these guidelines to avoid throttling or deliverability issues. Monitoring your sender reputation is a must. - Updated bounce codes
Orange has also provided a new updated list of bounce and error codes for senders to review. ESPs should be updating their bounce processor logic to manage these new codes.
These updates align with broader email security and anti-spam efforts. Ensuring compliance will keep your emails reaching Orange inboxes effectively. For more details, visit Orange’s Postmaster page.
