Breaking News – The Canadian House of Commons just voted C-28 – Canada’s Anti-Spam bill out of the house of commons and into the Senate.
Minister of Industry Tony Clement had this to say moments after the vote:
* An “on division” vote means that it was a Voice vote and not recorded vote.
Next up on C-28’s progress: a trip to the Senate for two readings, a committee review, and a third and final vote before it is law.
What will this bill mean for marketers? Is it very similar to CAN-SPAM?
Hi Lora,
This bill is similar in many ways to CAN-SPAM but different in the way that is requires consent to email individuals (opt-in), covers all forms of Commercial Electronic Messaging and deals with Malware/Spyware and installed software.
Thindata 1:1, Return Path, CAUCE and Kris Klein Law firm published a guide explaining the similarities and key differences of the bill – you can find it here: http://www.thindata.com/aboutus/resourcecenter/FISA.
Cheers,
Matt
