Recently a new email term has been circulating the internet; BACN… What’s is the deal with email and pork products?

Some simple definitions and comparisons between the pork product and the electronic messages.

HAM:

  1. A cut of meat from the heavy-muscled part of a hog’s rear quarter
  2. Solicited and opt-in email requested by an individual

BACN:

  1. The back and sides of the hog, salted and dried or smoked, usually sliced thin and fried for food
  2. An email you receive that isn’t spam but isn’t exactly a personal message, either. A good example of this is the google alert service

SPAM:

  1. Spiced Ham product made by Hormel
  2. Unsolicited email, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk email. Term was developed after Monty Python’s spam sketch (youtube.com)
